Project description
WOODS Engineering were delighted to work on the Birr Primary Care Centre and Ambulance Station, a new HSE facility serving a large catchment area.
The 3.5-acre site sits behind the Outdoor Education Centre on the Roscrea Road in Birr, known locally as ‘The Brothers Field’. The three-storey development provides 50,000 sq.ft of HSE healthcare accommodation, 807 m² of GP surgery space, and a pharmacy. The GP practice and pharmacy sit at ground floor, with HSE accommodation across all three levels.
A separate 397.5 m² two-storey ambulance base net zero carbon in design sits close to the main site entrance, with an attached single-storey garage and canopy.
Community health and social care services are delivered under one roof by an interdisciplinary team of GPs, practice and community nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and home support staff.
Woods Engineering delivered the mechanical and electrical services design for the development, achieving Part L compliance and high sustainability ratings through:
- An advanced building envelope achieving low thermal U-values
- Heat pump technology for highly efficient heating and hot water generation
- A comprehensive Building Management System for centralised control and optimisation of all mechanical and electrical plant
- Design and installation of site utility works
Designed to current primary care standards, with flexibility for future user requirements.
